    Music request from Trent

Post by cenobyte on Fri 28 Nov 2008 - 14:11

Trent Yacuk (the awesome guy what wrote this game system) is looking for lyrics that 'fit' each of the Embodiments.

If you have some suggestions, post them here or email them to c3n0byte at gmail dot com and I will pass them along to Trent.

Here are some he's already found:
    Lust:
I've got a bad boy and that's alright with me
His dirty laundry is nothing that I can't keep clean
And when he needs an alibi
He can use me all night

    Dirty Laundry, Bittersweet

    Charity:

    All because of you
    I believe in angels.
    Not the kind with wings,
    no, not the kind with halos;
the kind that bring you home
when home becomes a strange place.

The Good Left Undone, Rise Against

i'm not entirely sure where this would fit in, but i often listen to "count on me" by default when i want to get into a Divine mood...

"I know that life ain't always good to you,
i've seen exactly what it put you through,
thrown you around and turned you upside down, and so you
got to thinkin' there was no way out,
you started sinkin', and it pulled you down-
it may be tough, you've got to get back up,because you

know that life ain't over yet, i'm here for you,
so don't forget, you can count on me
cause i will carry you till you carry on

anytime you need someone, somebody strong to lean on
well, you can count on me to hold you till the feeling is gone

anytime you fall apart, you can hide hear in my arms,
and you can count on me to hold you till the healing is done..."

For the vices, there's a very easy route. Pick any Industrial/ Neo-Punk/ Death Metal album and you'll have a a dozen picks without even trying.

To demonstrate: The song 'Lecher Bitch' by the Genitorturers.

    Pride:
    Look in my eyes
Get a little star struck and a little insane
Tell me your story. Don't worry, I won't care
    Got a mission impossible
    'cause I'm the incomparable

    Lust:
Crossed your heart and still I lied
    Stick this needle down inside
Leave you with an open wound
    Left to die alone
    Like an animal

    Wrath:
I said HEY! I'm coming all the way
I've got some hell to pay
    Gonna rip you every way
    On the way down again

    Envy:
    Don't belong lording above me
Won't be hard to pull you underground
It won't be long till ya love me
Then I'll be coming at your back
    To bring it down

EDIT: Because Sloth lyrics might be a little harder to find than others (If only there was a Virtue attached to desperate longing for a beautiful girl) might I suggest the ultimate pick:

I was gonna clean my room until I got high
I gonna get up and find the broom but then I got high
my room is still messed up and I know why

    'Cause I got high
    'Cause I got high
    'Cause I got high

Also works for gluttony. The only other good example for gluttony I can think of is the Cookie Monster's song.

EDIT 2: Electric Boogaloo: Ironically, Flogging Molly's '7 Deadly Sins' is pretty much useless.

I had a few ideas for this:

Lust: Bright Eyes' "Lover I Don't Have to Love" (Lyrics)

    I want a lover I don't have to love
I want a boy who's so drunk he doesn't talk
Where's the kid with the chemicals?
I got a hunger and I can't seem to get full
    I need a meaning I can memorize
The kind I have always seems to slip my mind

Avarice: Barenaked Ladies' "If I Had a Million Dollars" (Lyrics)

    And if I had $1,000,000
    (If I had $1,000,000)
Well, I'd buy you an exotic pet
(Like a llama, or an emu)
    And if I had $1,000,000
    (If I had $1,000,000)

Pride: Decemberists' "I Was Meant for the Stage" (Lyrics)

    The heavens at my birth
    Intended me for stardom
Rays of light shone down on me
And all my sins were pardoned

Envy: Rick Springfield - 'Jesse's Girl'
    Jessie is a friend,
    yeah, I know he's been
    a good friend of mine
    But lately something's changed
    that ain't hard to define
    Jessie's got himself a girl
and I want to make her mine

Gluttony: Lou Reed - 'Walk on the Wild Side'
    Jackie is just speeding away
Thought she was james dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash
Valium would have helped that dash

I sent these to Trent, already, but perhaps they might inspire someone else. I've omitted Gabe's songs cause, well, Jill needs to release that CD first. Smile

    Lust:

Give me give me that rush
I need wings and I need healing
In my veins and in my blood
Give me, give me that rush

    Rush, Edwin

    I don't feel guilty
No matter what they're telling me
I won't feel dirty and buy into their misery
I won't be shamed cause I believe that love is free
It fuels the heart and sex is not my enemy

Sex Is Not The Enemy, Garbage

    Avarice:
Cause I can't see no reason
    What is blind cannot see
'Cause I want what is pleasing
All I take should be free
What I rob from the innocent ones
What I'd steal from the womb
If I cried me a river of all my confessions
Would I drown in my shallow regret

    Black, Sarah McLachlan

    Charity:
    I will cry for you
    I will cry for you
I will wash away your pain with all my tears
    And drown your fear

    #1 Crush, Garbage

    Envy:
I know mother they give you with one hand
And I know father they take it with two
    Enslaving your deepest desires
With shining things you can't acquire
    Keep you needy and un-whole
    Consuming your soul

    Mirror, Supreme Beings of Leisure

Wait, is he looking for a few lines, or a whole song?

He might find better lines in the songs I linked, I just put in some sample lyrics so as people would get an idea what the song was like without having to visit the links.

And now I'll stop discarding songs just because parts of them don't fit.

First of all I should note that if you check out
www.songstowearpantsto.com you'll find what I consider to be a talented
musician who will create songs to order. He can sound a lot of
different ways. You'll have to pay him if you don't want him to go all evil genie on your request, though.

    Accolade II
by Symphony X would be a good faith I think. Faith's got that whole "holy warrior made of fire" vibe going on and the song is all battles and nobility and shiny armor and not wavering in the face of evil.

Good approximation of the lyrics here: http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858493812/

You can here a sample of it here:
    http://www.gomusic.ru/album.aspx?id=15377&fid=208304

Winterborn by the Cruxshadows would be a good fortitude. Sure it sounds gothy but there are lyrics in there like...

Hold your head up high-for there is no greater love
Think of the faces of the people you defend

    ...

And in this moment..I will not run
It is my place to stand
    We few shall carry hope
    Within our bloodied hands

    ...

In the fury of this darkest hour
    I will be your light

    Full lyrics here: http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858495372/

You can hear a sample here: http://www.cruxshadows.com/frame.html
...but you have to tinker around with the player at the top of the window.

To answer this, I am looking for lines that can be used as headers for each of the Embodiments. It can be extended in general to other sections, but the Embodiments are where I would like to start.

I do believe that Sloth will be:Don't fret precious I'm here, step away from the window
    Go back to sleep
Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils,
See, they don't give a fuck about you, like I do.

I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from a will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and your choices son
They're one in the same, I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself

-Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums
    Perfect Circle

I guess I should have added one important thing.

The music I want isn't just for the lyrics but for the mood that it evokes.

Cocaine, by Epic Clapton is a fine lyrical song for Gluttony, but
    a) it was recorded in the late 70's
    b) it does not have the right mood...unless the point of the game was to encourage burnt out 70's bikers for Gluttony.

The songs/lyrics I'm looking for need to evoke the feel of Kingdom Come. Modern, sexy, meaningful. The type of music that would be featured on the soundtrack of a kick-ass movie that gets you excited about the content of the movie.

I think burnt out 70s bikers are *perfect* representatives of Gluttony.

In fact, I have an idea for a new character...

Also, reading your post, I further support my own choice for the Leonard Cohen song. Very sexy and sensual.

Alright, I'll try taking a stab at the hard ones.

    Fortitude:

    I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
    I focus on the pain
    The only thing that's real
    The needle tears a hole
    The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
    But I remember everything

    - Hurt by Nine Inch Nails

    Prudence:

    Every minute is arranged
    Every moment lasts a day
But thinking about it can't help me let go, I know.

Talk, talking a lot, but it's still talk
Gotta love how it's somehow all on me
    All the petty scenes
    And all the pretty things
    Say whatever you want
'Cause I can laugh it off.
    I can laugh it off.

    - Let It Happen by Jimmy Eat World

I'm just a singer, some say a sinner
Rolling the dice, not always a winner
You say I've been lucky, well hell I've made my own
Not part of the crowd, but not feeling alone

Under pressure, but not bent out of shape
Surrounded, we always found an escape
Drove me to drink, but hey that's not all bad
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad

    - Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad by Bono

    I was alone, Falling free,
Trying my best not to forget
What happened to us, what happened to me,
What happened as I let it slip.

I was confused by the powers that be,
    Forgetting names and faces
    Passersby were looking at me
As if they could erase it

Baby, did you forget to take your meds?

    - Meds by Placebo

    Temperance:

let me sail, let me sail, let the orinoco flow,
let me reach, let me beach on the shores of Tripoli.
let me sail, let me sail, let me crash upon your shore,
let me reach, let me beach far beyond the Yellow Sea.
da da, da da, da da, da da, da da
sail away, sail away, sail away

    - Orinoco Flow by Enya

Touching down, it's a frozen town
Look around, I grew up, I fell down
    Nothing changes, nothing changes
    Except the red lights
    Nobody changes, nobody changes
    Wanna see them tonight

    - Any Day Now by The Watchmen

    What's all this talk about
    Planning for the crisis
I'm not thinking like that at all
    Smiling faces are my Dionysis
I'm not thinking clear at all
    [...]
Yeah as much as I can say
It's hard for me to stay away
    Ever and ever
Yeah as far as any eye can see
You're looking pretty fine to me
    Better and better
Yeah as far as I can tell
We're on the road to a brighter hell

    - Brighter Hell by The Watchmen

And because I came across it and it amuses me, one more for Gluttony:

A friend in needs a friend indeed,
A friend with weed is better,
A friend with breasts and all the rest,
A friend who's dressed in leather,

A friend in need is a friend indeed,
A friend who'll tease is better,
    Our thoughts compressed,
    Which makes us blessed,
    And makes for stormy weather

    - Pure Morning by Placebo

All I know, is what it did take to make this, All I am, is what it will take to break this.
All I know, is what it did take to make this. All I am is what it will take to break this.
Light it up now, light it up now.

    Rawkfist - Thousand Foot Krutch

Edit: i know it repeats, but thats just the part of the song that reminds me of fortitude.

Heh. Hurt by NIN is a song about drug addiction. Funny that you would think about it for Fortitude. But it's a good song and I already used that quote in the Trauma section. =)

For Fortitude I recently heard a song from Disturbed called Indestructable. Perhaps a triffle obvious.

    Another mission
The powers have called me away
    Another time
    To carry the colors again
    My motivation
An oath I've sworn to defend
    To win the honor
    Of coming back home again
    No explanation
    Will matter after we begin
Another dark destroyer that's buried within
    My true vocation
    And know my unfortunate friend
    You will discover
A war you're unable to win

    I'll have you know
    That I've become...

    Indestructible
    Determination that is incorruptible
    From the other side
    A terror to behold
    Annihilation will be unavoidable
    Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while you're alive
I'm an indestructible master of war

Oh and that song by Pure Morning...I have to admit that I absolutely hate it. It's one of those songs i change the radio station on when I hear it. I guess it's petty of me to discount a song that I personally hate, since I'm just one person, but hey...being petty and a game designer seems to go hand in hand sometimes. Wink

I know it's not one of the ones for which you're still looking, but I was just listening to some music and hit by these lines:

And I cant help myself because I was born to shine.
And if you dont like it, you can shove it.
But you dont like it, you love it.

... so I needed to stop and suggest Weezer's The Greatest Man That Ever Lived for Pride. Lots of lyrics in that song fit: http://www.metrolyrics.com/the-greatest-man-that-ever-lived-lyrics-weezer.html

Okay so i can't fit anything to this song but i really like it and think that the lyrics go to fallen during the war times in general, or if you want to the angels who hunt us.

    The Way Of The Warrior
    Hammerfall

Our time has come, get ready fight
Sisters and brothers in metal unite
The dreams that you had are about to come true
The voice of the warrior is calling for you

Turn your own deeds to his gracious glory,
And he will make you see

This is the way we want it to be
This is the way of the warrior
This is the way we want it to be
Walking the way, the honest will see
Walking the way of the warrior
Walking the way, the way of the warrior

Blood-red the steel of our swords shall flow
And by the allegiance were ready to go
Stout are the foe, in warfare so bold
Nothing can stop us, the future we hold

    Brace up, defend,
Never ever be outdone in bravery

This is the way we want it to be
This is the way of the warrior
This is the way we want it to be
Walking the way, the honest will see
Walking the way of the warrior
Walking the way, the way of the warrior

The saints and the sinners in battle so bright, as the forces of steel will unite
The way of the warrior, the call of his life, shall lead us all into the light

The metal crusade will conquer all
Our bonds will be stronger, see the infidels fall
Surrender your soul to the gods of steel
In the blood of the fallen the enemies kneel

Turn your own deeds to his gracious glory,
And he will make you see
    Brace up, defend,
Never ever be outdone in bravery

This is the way we want it to be
This is the way of the warrior
This is the way we want it to be
Walking the way, the honest will see
Walking the way of the warrior
Walking the way, the way of the warrior

This is the way we want it
This is the way we need it
This is the way of the warrior

This is the way we want it
This is the way we need it
This is the way of the warrior
    This is the way

I know it's kind of sappy and dorky, but on Mary's favourite Christmas cd, there is this song by Alabama called Angels Among Us. Every time I hear it, it makes me think of the "good guys," the Charity and Hope's and Faith's out there that really try to help people...(it especially makes me think of Gabe).

I was walking home from school on a cold winter day.
Took a shortcut through the woods, and I lost my way.
It was getting late, and I was scared and alone.
But then a kind old man took my hand and led me home.
Mama couldnt see him, but he was standing there.
And I knew in my heart, he was the answer to my prayers.

    Chorus
Oh I believe there are angels among us.
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours.
To show us how to live, to teach us how to give.
To guide us with a light of love.

When life held troubled times, and had me down on my knees.
Theres always been someone there to come along and comfort me.
A kind word from a stranger, to lend a helping hand.
A phone call from a friend, just to say I understand.
And aint it kind of funny that at the dark end of the road.
Someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope.

    Chorus

They wear so many faces, show up in the strangest places.
To guide us with their mercy, in our time of need.

    Chorus

To guide us with a light of love.
