    Combat - Tactical Movement

Post by Keth on Fri 5 Dec 2008 - 17:55

After last game (Nov. 08 ) where some of us were almost literally being thrown across the room like a softball. I came to wonder what exactly are the limitations to tactical combat movement/round of combat.

Simplified. How far can we move to engage, or disengage from an opponent while combat is in progress?

I believe it was mentioned 3 paces at the game at some point but I felt it necessary to check on the accuracy of that.

Well, to answer your question, I need to know what you mean by 'engage' or 'disengage'.

Generally, you can move one full Distance Rank away from combat (uses Reactive Body) or one full Distance Rank toward combat (uses Dynamic Body) if you choose 'movement' as your action for the round.

Short = 1-10 feet. At this point, everything devolves into hand-to-hand combat.
Medium - Outside close combat; 11-40 feet
    Long - about a block (41-100 feet)
Extreme - Anything further than a block.

Characters in close combat can take a Movement option to run away.

I *think* what this means is that if you're 100 feet away from combat when it begins, it will take you two rounds to close the distance between you and your opponent; one to go from a Long distance away to a Medium distance, and one to go from a medium distance to the short distance where hand-to-hand combat takes place.

So it's not really about paces, really. It's an approximation. And within 10 feet, you don't have to take a movement action to close the distance between you and your opponent.
