Mass aid other? Empty Mass aid other?

    Post by Keth Sun 5 Oct 2008 - 15:41

I know you can dedicate your endeavours to aiding another, but can you do an aid action for a group? like for a brief example.

"keth aids the training (in warfare) of everyone who goes to the dojo."

Is such a thing possible? and would the aid action have a diminished return based on the number of fallen training? Im assuming it would but i feel i should ask.

And then for the last bit. If its not possible to do such a thing with aid actions can it be done with group actions? Such as organizing a large group to focus their training together to share the effort between them all?

Just a curiosity. And even if it doesnt make sence rule wise i hope you all managed to get the general concpet of what im asking.. maybe..

As an answer to a portion of your question, you can Aid a Group Action. I don't know if you can do something like Training as a Group Action, but I do know that, for example, in the search for Oliver, some joined together in a great big Group Action, and some people simply gave their Aid to that.

There is currently no Train Other action, other than Aid (which is pretty weak). I've talked to Jill about it, because I REALLY want to be able to do one, and we'll get back to you when we have something.

In addition to "aid other" there is also "player defined". I would think if there is no action that does what a player wants, it would make sense to submit what you want to do and suggest a difficulty to Jill for it.

On an individual basis, the player defined
actions work like that, but I don't know about mass player defined
actions. F'rinstance, usually the only Group Actions you can take must
be opposed...which is to say they have to be Actions like Hunt,
Investigate, etc.. This is how the mechanics for Group Actions works:
everyone pools their effort (small ee effort), which is then divided
and rounded down. That number is what is used in the opposed challenge.
For something like Training, there is no opposed challenge, so that
kind of group action makes no sense.

    However, I'm thinking
about a Class Action (Go, Tony Merchant!!!! (he's a
    lawyer....specialises in class action lawsuits....damn. Well, it's
funny to me)) wherein one Teacher can train/teach a number of students
equal to the Difficulty and, if successful, may provide things like 1
Inspiration for the next challenge in which that skill is used (combat,
    meditation, etc.).

I've run this by the game designer to see
what he thinks, and I'll let you know if a Class Action (snigger) is
something that might be on the horizon.

Mass aid other? Empty "Class Action"

I think if we are basing any game mechanic on Tony Merchant, it should only be possible by irredeemable avarice characters.

Irredeemable? That's a little harsh. I mean, he's doing what's *best* for those people, right?

Avarice or Lust, I think. You could even try to argue Justice, although that might be a bit of a stretch....

Have you ever seen Tony Merchant in action? He puts Cheriour to shame. Fewer machetes in court, but to listen to him speak, he was BORN to uphold justice and the Laws of Man!

He's already someone's Affection. But I'm not telling who. In fact, he might be someone's CHOSEN WEAPON!!! (Almost completely useless in battle, but afterwards, he creates such a fuss that nobody ever wants to attack you again.)

I shudder to think at who would have Merchant as an affection. Almost worth overlooking the commandment about suffering other's affections.
