Devotion is basically your willpower; a method by which you can attempt to do things better than you would normally be able. In a challenge, you can use Devotion to increase your chances of success (it gives you an Inspiration). It can also be used to resist Compelling Techniques that affect your decisions and reactions. You can also use it to make your own Techniques harder to resist or more difficult to notice. Finally, you use Devotion to create Affections. There are Vices and Preeminences that restrict your use of Devotion, or which grant you more Devotion than you would normally have, respectively (Adversary, Drain, Contempt, etc.). Some allow you to spend Devotion on someone else's behalf (Prayer).

Devotion refreshes at the beginning of every Event, and cannot be used for Secular Actions.

Is there a page in the BRB that describes this? I swear I've looked at every page and have found only a cursory description, no details. Nothing about how to buy it, (is it under an archeype**? Do you start with 0?) whether can be used multiple times on one challenge, or even - as you've explained above - what it actually does.

**The answer to this question is here, yes, but not in the book. Also, as a point of further interest, can we please sticky that link because it is without a doubt the Most Useful Chart ever and this forum is the only place I've seen it.

The description of what Devotion is and how it is used is in the System section of the BRB. It's on p. 129, and the chart called "Devotion Guide" is on p. 130.
