As you have just recently mentioned, you cannot use devotion for Downtime. I completely get that. There are Resources, Secular Power, and Temporary Secular Acquisitions to cover modifications to the Downtime actions.

The thing is, my reading on devotion outside of regular games is that you cannot use it for such Secular Actions but could still use it between games at side-scenes if, if, you have devotion *left over from the last game.*

This makes a big difference in particular for those techniques which which have a secondary function when you spend devotion. I am thinking of Enslave, Dispensation, Harrowing, and Beguile, although there may be others that don't immediately come to mind. It could distinctly change how certain side-scenes might go.

    Hrm.

Let me cogitate on this. I think you're right; that you cannot use Devotion on your downtime actions/turns (the things what you submit to me by the 15th of each month), but that if you are doing side scenes *with other characters*, you may be able to use whatever Devotion you did not use at the game.

ANSWER: As this has, strangely, come up this month, I think this is a good rule to use - that if you are doing scenes with other characters, you may use whatever Devotion you did not use at the game for your scenes. Similarly, for some tests YOU may have to make against the STORYGUIDE (for static difficulties, etc.), you may be permitted to use Devotion. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

You may NOT use Devotion on any action on which you spend Effort, Secular Power, or Resources (temporary or permanent).
