In the new system, your wound levels are all based off of your Reactive Prowess in each Set. You calculate your Severe Wounds first, then your Surface wounds; the sum of your Severe and Surface Wounds is equal to your Reactive Prowess, as follows:

    Reactive Stat
    Surface Wounds
    Severe Wounds
    0

You will use your Reactive Soul/Mind when you make a Trauma Test to try to avoid *taking* Trauma.

You will use your Dynamic Soul/Mind when you are making a Healing Test to try to heal Trauma.

Think of it in terms of "use Dynamic when you're trying to get something done" and "use Reactive when you're trying to avoid something".
