    Restraints Empty Restraints

    Post by Eliel Wed 4 Feb 2009 - 12:05

My unjderstanding is that supernatural creatures heal physical wounds very quickly. If a character has been mortally wounded, but for dramatic purposes it is better not to kill them, how easy is it to "tie them up".

The downtime death thread got me thinking about a number of scenes. With Oliver's capture and death it was more narration than challenges so I didn't worry too much, but if the player wanted his character to escape, how easy would it have been to just bust the chains and run.

When Cherior was chained up I had similar thoughts. When we captured the demons, part of the reason they were just killed while unconscious was that I didn't know if it was actually possible to let them regain consciousness without another fight breaking out again.

I have some thoughts on how I would think this type of scen should work but I'm curious if the book addresses it.

Not sure if this helps, and i would still wait for someone else to comment. But I believe mortal wounds take a full week to heal? and untill they do you are basically unable to do anything particularly usefull physically.

    I think..

    Mortal Wound=FUBAR.

    I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner.

If you take your last mortal wound, you are considered defeated, and you are incapacitated. At that point, you are at the mercy of your attacker. If your attacker decides to kill you, so be it. If your attacker decides to tie you up, so be it. If your attacker decides to write 'corksucker' on your face with a marker, that's what happens.

Superficial wounds are the scars of old wounds, and are not tracked. Healing someone supernaturally does not leave scars, but healing naturally does.
Surface wounds are cuts and bruises that take at least a scene to heal.
Severe wounds cause you to take a Pain Hindrance and heal at the rate of one per day.
Mortal wounds are extremely nasti, and you heal one per week.

With one rare exception (using Recure with benefits from Secular Predomination) , you can only heal three wounds supernaturally in any day.

Now, all that being said, keep in mind your Storyguide can bend these rules where dramatically appropriate for the story.

Thanks. My question was more about being restrained in general, rather than just with wounds. In Cherior's and Oliver's case, I don't think either was mortally wounded. Would we essentially have to mortally wound someone first before being certain they couldn't escape being chained up?

Oh! So we can scar? I should have some then.

    Can we get tattoos, too?

Sure, I guess, if you want. If you think it'll be cool, go for it.

My understanding was if we get hurt we keep the scars untill we hollow death, at which point we come back with the scars we had only when we first reckoned. So if you had a scar then you have it, you get one after you just have to die to get rid of it Wink

Yes, but hollow death should be a rare thing. I think most fallen would not have experienced it, so would still have post-reckoning tats or scars.

They'd not be cripples unless they sinned, we're supposed to punch them, and enjoy the justice that comes of it.

Also, wouldn't it be prejudice to *not* call a man on a cross a jerk just because he's on a cross? You'd be letting superficial things affect your actions. That would be wrong.

Well, now, it might be a *bit* prejudicial to call just anybody dangling from a cross a jerk. I mean, some folks *choose* to be up there. *cough* Cheriour *cough*.

Are you trying to say that Cheriour *isn't* a jerk? Cause, I'd have to beg to differ if that's the case...

From a SG perspective, I don't think he's a jerk at all. Then again, I didn't keep his chosen weapons in my panties for three months....
