    Casting Call Empty Casting Call

    Post by Rada Tue 14 Oct 2008 - 2:47

Jill's request for a soundtrack song reiminded me of a really fun thread at on the message board at one of the Saskatoon LARPs. Everyone was asked what actors and actresses they thought would best portray the different characters if the LARP's storyline was turned into a movie. You can just post about your own character, you can post about the courts, you can post around just those you've had scenes with, or you can post about everyone. The idea is to have fun with it and help create images of the different characters in our minds rather than just seeing the player.

Please remember that the idea is to pick actors/actresses that feel right for the character not just trying to find famous look-alikes for the players. For example for Rada, I would say Henry Rollins, who I look nothing like (man, I wish), but I think would capture Rada well. Speaking of anger, I think Jack Nicholson would make an fuckin cool Oliver.

Casting Call Empty Lockwood and Jade

    Post by Rada Tue 14 Oct 2008 - 3:14

For Lockwood, it needs to be an actor that can pull off looking casually filthy rich in a suit, has an air of power about him, and yet can get all scruffy-like. My first choice for him is Ryan Phillippe, but if the rumours about Lockwood being in a band are true, then perhaps James Marsters.

For Jade, Zhang Ziyi seemed most fitting. Usually she looks completely innocent and can go all doe-eye but she also has that mischevious thing going. As well, she can portray the always there possibility that she may go psycho and stab you in the face with a hair pin.

    Casting Call Empty Sophiel

    Post by Rada Tue 14 Oct 2008 - 4:06

Helena Bonham Carter does batfuck crazy so well that she seems the perfect fit for Sophiel. (not that Sophiel is crazy in any way)

Taye Diggs for Marius. Not ideal, because I really don't see Marius as black (which is a background thing, not just racial), but he's got the kind of grounded, solid presence which is the bedrock of Marius' personality.

Alternately, Ewan McGregor. But he...flows a little too much.

    Wow.
    Helena Bonham Carter, huh? Wow.
Uh. That's a hell of a compliment to how I'm playing Sophiel. Thank you.

I would have chosen Joan Cusack or Patricia Arquette. But I like Bonham-Carter better.

    Casting Call Empty Rebecca

    Post by Rada Tue 14 Oct 2008 - 19:10

So I was thinking about Rebecca, and Faith from Buffy came to mind (not the shiny happy Faith from season 7, but the angry violent one from season 3). So I was thinking Eliza Dushku for Rebecca, but I'm not sure if it's actually cause the actress would match up or just similarly "written" characters.

I also have trouble seperating the character from the actor when I select Tom Berenger, who played the sociopathic Sgt. Barnes in Platoon. He has the sort of unrelenting, constant vigilance, and the barely controlled rage that I see embodying Cheriour.

Oh, I hadn't thought of it before, but Faith and Rebecca are kinda similar. Angry, violent, lost and incredibly self destructive.

My vote is for Angelina Jolie to play Rebecca, 'cause she's HAWT! Ahem. Barring that, I agree with Dave, Eliza Dushku does angry, barely controlled violence very well. I also like Jennifer Carpenter (she plays Deb, Dexter's sister) for Rebecca.

Okay so for jade i have no clue because Dave found someone who makes me so happy i could burst and now i can think of no one elses to play jade, but i think Hugh Jackman would play a great Rada, since he can have that rugged angry yet contained relaxed look(if that makes any sence.) and the fact that wolverine kinda reminds me of Rada doesn't help. ^-^

Summer Glau i think would be perfect for Sophiel since she can play the insane person who is completly sure of what they are saying is true.

Well done on the Summer Glau. It now has me thinking of what other Firefly actors could apply to others.

Right now I'm thinking of three people: Peter Lorre, Edward Norton, or Justin Long. Edward Norton because I think he can summon the right balance of playfulness and whinyness and frustration in Shapurnippal, Justin Long because there's definitely a bit of the post-ironic hipster schtick in Shappie that those Mac ads exemplify, and Peter Lorre because... I don't know, he just feels right for the part.

Jordan - Kevin Spacey or John Cusack. That kind of 'something big is going down inside, and if this guy ever blows, little tiny heads will roll' thing going on.

I had Kevin Spacey picked for Arc, because of the way Spacey has of looking normal but playing extremely creepy characters with a sort of complete sincerity and self-assurance.

My pick for Gabe would be Morgan Freeman, for his paternalistic compassion, which would work perfectly with some of the disturbing things that Gabe says and believes.

Morgan Freeman for Gabe? I don't see it. I was thinking Michael Shanks.

As for some of the others, I think Gabriel Byrne would be perfect for Arc and Rose McGowan for Cat.

    I keep thinking about this..

Rada wrote:Well done on the Summer Glau. It now has me thinking of what other Firefly actors could apply to others.

    Jewel Staite :: Jade

It was just on that topic and i have not really seen her play any character other than Kaylee. But she did pretty good at that seeming innocent thing, and just the feel of the person watching where if someone hurt Kaylee it made you immediatly hate that antagonist >.< or maybe that was just me.

I just remember the first time I watched an episode of Firefly (the first one in the dvd set) and Kaylee got shot. Dan was not pleased at all, I almost returned the series to the store right there.

Yeah.. thats my suggestion of a firefly actress. Sorry for the tangent Razz

    Molior :: Liam Neeson

First, Molior strikes me as having the same mentorish, calm and methodical (one might also say temperate) attitude that this guy pulls off scary well. And yet.. you just kinda know that he could easily kick the crap out of you in 2.6 seconds flat without spilling a drop of coffee from the cup in his hand.

i think Norman Reedus would play a good Shamus McMannus. you may have seen him in movies like Boondock Saints, or Blade II. alternatively, the guy that played "Steven" in Braveheart, but he is a bit unstable. possibly Brad Pitt, because he is probably one of the most versatie actors nowadays. and he can definately play a good pikey (Snatch).
