Lingering Trauma - what is it?

BRB p. 148 wrote:Lingering Trauma is a special form of near-permanent damage. During character creation, Maturity and certain Vices require you to take Lingering Trauma. Throughout the course of play, situations such as Crucifixion, Torture, Hollow Death, (and other situations or Heinous Acts the Storyguide deems appropriate) can cause Lingering Trauma as well.

How do you heal Lingering Trauma?

BRB p. 155 wrote:Lingering Trauma can only be healed under very special circumstances:
    • You cannot have any other Traumatic wounds in that Archetype.
    • A Therapist who takes a Rehabilitation Action on your behalf must have the Therapist Profession at Dedicated even to attempt to heal Lingering Trauma *
    • You gain no Inspirations on your Healing Test from the Therapist’s use of the Profession.
    • You cannot use the Artist Profession.
    • The Difficulty of the Rehabilitation Action is Epic(15)
    • The Difficulty for the Healing test is High (8)
    • The Storyguide has a re-roll against you in favour of your keeping the Lingering Trauma.

If you fail your Healing test, you may repeat your downtime action (devoting at least 1 Effort or SP to it) and your Healing test in subsequent months; there is no limit to the number of attempts you may make. Other wounds can be cured ‘around’ Lingering Trauma: if you have two Surface Trauma and one Severe Lingering Trauma, you may ignore the Lingering Wound and take Rehabilitation actions to heal the Surface Trauma. If you take a Lingering Wound as your Mortal Traumatic wound, follow the rules to heal Lingering Trauma instead of the rules for healing Mortal Trauma.

If you have a Vice that coresponds to Lingering Trauma, you lose that Vice and any Cinematic point that went with it.

*There is currently some confusion with the wording in the BRB as to whether some aspects of healing Lingering Trauma are similar to the requirements of healing Mortal Trauma; specifically, the requirement for Mortal Trauma that you cannot take a Rehabilitation action to heal your own Mortal Trauma - you can only allocate your Effort and SP to an Aid action.

Until I hear otherwise, I have decided that we will go with exactly what it says above (which is a paraphrase and clean-up of the quote in the BRB), that you can attempt to take a Rehabilitation Action on your own behalf if you have Lingering Trauma, but that the Difficulty for that Rehabilitation action is always 15, and that the Difficulty for the Healing Test is always 8; you cannot get Inspirations from Therapists, nor can you use the Artist Profession, and anyone who DOES want to take a Rehabilitation Action on your behalf must have Therapist at Dedicated to do so. Oh, and then the re-roll against you.
